6. The Campaign Is Surprisingly Good

The Battlefield franchise has historically either not even bothered with a proper campaign (beyond skirmishes against bots) or may as well not have, given how thoroughly tedious and piecemeal they've typically ended up.

Well, DICE finally got it right with BF1's collection of War Stories, telling a number of hour-long tales from WW1 with memorable characters, actual emotion, strong set-pieces and excellent voice acting.

It's not perfect by any means (the stealth sections aren't great), but it's a major step-up from the usual fare, and actually tries to do something ambitious with the standard war game campaign.

By compartmentalising the action and shifting perspectives, it ensures that staleness doesn't have much of a chance to set in. If this were the formula for all future BF campaigns, that'd be no bad thing.
