Before FIFA 13: The Evolution Of Football's Biggest Gaming Franchise

2007 - FIFA 08

FIFA 08 was the first FIFA game to be released on the "next generation" of consoles (PS3, Xbox 360) and with this transition came graphics never seen in the series before. For the first time, the FIFA series was made available on the Nintendo Wii, which featured motion controls for shooting and three mini games that utilised the Wii remote. "Be a Pro" made its debut in the series, which allowed the gamer to control a specific player on the pitch instead of all members of the starting XI. The League of Ireland made its debut in the series also, which contributed to the 621 licensed teams, 43 national teams, 30 leagues and more than 15,000 licensed players in the game. In the PS2 version of the game, two new features were added. The first being goalkeeper AI, which meant when in a one-on-one situation with a forward and goalkeeper, the player could take control of the goalkeeper by pressing the right analogue stick. The second of the new features was when taking a free kick you were able to push the R3 (right stick) to lock the position of the ball, while you used the stick to determine exactly where you wanted the free kick to go. These two features have not been used in any FIFA games since.
