Bioshock's 10 Best Moments
4. The Lutece Twins - Bioshock Infinite
There is an argument to be made that the Lutece 'Twins' are the most fascinating characters across all three games. We first meet them at the beginning of Bioshock Infinite as they are escorting you to the city of Columbia, engaging in a strange conversation about you and their expectations of you. It's all very confusing and each subsequent appearance by them only adds to the confusion.
It is only when you have finished the game, and possibly not even then, that you understand their role in the story. You see, Bioshock Infinite deals with the concept of parallel universes (which we will look at in greater detail later) and it turns out the Lutece 'Twins' aren't twins at all, they are the same person from two different universes!
Whilst you attempt to wrap your head around that, consider the fact that they are actually responsible for most, if not all the events in the game. As you make your way through, you will occasionally bump into the Lutece's, often engaging in seemingly non-sensical arguments and occasionally asking you random questions.
It is only at the end you realise they have seen all of this before many times over, and the memories of all your run-ins come flooding back, only this time they make sense. The insistence that "He doesn't row", the coin flip and subsequent dialogue that follows it, the tally marks added after you flip the coin; they all add up to the truth that you have seen and done these things before, and the Lutece's know it. Mind blowing.
