The iconic underwater city of Rapture is the birthplace of the Bioshock franchise. It’s neon lights, art deco architecture and fascinating characters made the dystopia absolutely breathtaking. It was Rapture’s atmosphere and story that captivated critics and gamers alike back in 2007, so what better way to relaunch the series than to go back to where it began?

Rapture’s assortment of ideals and personalities may be gone, but perhaps we could revisit Rapture in the modern day, nearly 50 years after the events of Bioshock 2. By then, Rapture would have degraded into apocalyptic standards.

Gene manipulation and use of ADAM may be so extreme that the last human features of splicers may be long gone. New horrors could exist as the splicers evolve to adapt to Rapture’s changing environments.

In addition, new plasmids could be explored, bringing more abilities to the player. Modern weapons could be brought from the surface, blending with the 1940s look of the now dilapidated sea metropolis.

Players could take up the role of a conspiracy theorist, determined to find the truth about the hidden utopia of Rapture. Or play as a member of a government, sent to scout out the city. A new trip to Rapture could reignite the fanbase for Bioshock 4.
