4. You Might Bounce RIGHT Off The Comedy

Of course, the flip side to so much aggressively puerile or throwaway humour is that scores of people will just cringe in response.

Your mileage may vary, but for me, I NEVER thought Gearbox were especially hilarious, or capable of writing unique characters we couldn't see anywhere else. Handsome Jack is brilliant, I ADORE me some Claptrap, but there's hardly a signature element of comedy that permeates the entire script or world.

Borderlands has great characters, and in between all the shooting they're fantastic to hang out with. In an objective sense, Borderlands 3 frames itself in a very deliberate, meme-able way. It's something you can tell is both routed in the old school, alongside a "catch all" approach that occasionally feels like a more toothless Rick & Morty.
