While there won't be a battle royale component in this year's Call of Duty, Activision themselves confirmed that a proper, story-driven campaign will be included. While this element was dropped from Black Ops IV, rumours quickly circulated that other titles in development would still ship with this feature intact, with job positions opening up at Infinity Ward for campaign-specific programmers.

While these rumours were convincing anyway, CFO Dennis Durkin confirmed to shareholders that Call of Duty 2019 will indeed feature a regular campaign at launch. That's a relief, as part of the reason Modern Warfare became such a success was its distinct characters and story. They obviously weren't as important as the multiplayer, but it's still a huge part of why these games still get talked about.

It is an interesting move though, especially in the wake of EA blaming the focus on single-player over battle royale as being the reason Battlefield V wasn't as successful as the publisher wanted it to be.
