Ever since it released, there've been questions over how Activision plan on supporting Blackout with each new Call of Duty. Though it was bundled in with Black Ops IV, the mode is practically its own unique beast, riffing on the franchise's history and acting as a live service that can be tweaked and updated to keep it relevant.

Introducing a brand new COD every year with its own battle royale mode would, again, split the market, and there have been rumours that at some point Activision will take the mode free-to-play, and release themed content alongside whichever Call of Duty is coming out that year.

While that's all up in the air though, one thing is for certain: Modern Warfare 4 won't have its own battle royale mode.
