Call Of Duty: Black Ops 4 - 10 Past Mistakes Activision Can't Repeat

6. Drop The Supers In Multiplayer

When Call of Duty went into the future it did more than add double-jumping and wall-running into its multiplayer. In an attempt to chase other popular online shooters, COD also introduced its own version of supers and special classes.

Infinite Warfare added Combat Rigs that changed up playstyles and introduced unique special weapons, while the "Specialists" in Black Ops 3 allowed players to unleash a character-specific super move once their meter had been filled, letting them whip out a deadly bow or transform themselves into hulking tanks.

Instead of adding variety or new ways to play, these systems only got in the way of the core gameplay fans actually liked, something which WW2 realised and responded to by removing them entirely. By now Activision must understand that Call of Duty is at its worst when it's trying to mimic other popular games, and can more than succeed by focusing entirely on its own brilliant mechanics.
