5. Call of Duty Will Encourage Fans To Invest In The New Consoles
Launch titles that accompany a console are usually a crap shoot. Nintendo is somewhat immune to this, as they could easily belt out a Mario, Zelda, Metroid, Kirby, Smash Bros., or any of their reliable title games and find that it will sell well - their main titles are fairly consistent in their popularity and reception. The PlayStation and XBOX don't have as much surety here - in the previous generation, they largely shared a similarly mixed up bag of launch-time presentation. Hell, Call of Duty 2 was shipped with both games, and with minor exceptions, it was largely the most well-known of the titles that came out. Now, seven years later, Call of Duty has made itself a household name. It stands to say that by only developing the title for the XBOX One and PlayStation 4, that it could motivate otherwise disinterested consumers into purchasing the game. Furthermore, following Microsoft's announcement that the XBOX One will have a significant monetary restriction on the ability to play used games and lend them to each other, die-hard Call of Duty fans and hardcore gamers will have an extra reason to invest in the new, state-of-the art entertainment - if it is financially feasible for them.
