Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare Beta Review - 5 Ups & 5 Downs

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare finally opened up its multiplayer beta to all players this past weekend, and it's fair to say that the response across the fanbase has been divisive, to say the least.

On one hand it's clear that Activision and Infinity Ward are trying to claw back goodwill with fans who have been alienated by the series' increasingly silly entries over the last few years.

Yet from the evidence provided by this beta, they've also taken a fairly simplistic and unoriginal approach to recapturing that former glory.

Modern Warfare appears to be a (mostly) back-to-basics romp that also offers up a semi-admirable attempt to expand the scope of the multiplayer suite, while presenting some uniquely democratic options for the global player-base.

Overall it delivers enough fast-paced carnage to satisfy in spite of its flaws, even if it's clear that the whole needs some work - and some complaints clearly aren't going to be fixed for when the game hits stores on October 25th...
