Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered Finally Confirmed For Standalone Release

Finally! No need to buy Infinite Warfare just to play it.

While Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare might not be the high note for the franchise, it did have one thing going for it that other entries in the series didn't, and that's being bundled with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare -- the game that most first-person shooter fans attribute to the genre's success and lasting appeal.

When Activision announced last year that people who want to play Modern Warfare Remastered must buy Infinite Warfare and pay extra just to be able to play it, most people assumed that this little hostage situation with MWR won't be permanent. Of course, Activision can't confirm or announce that MWR will get a standalone release since it will, in turn, hurt Infinite Warfare's bottom line, which is the sales figure. Well, the time for all of that has passed, as Activision has officially confirmed in a press release that MWR will finally be available as a standalone release this coming Tuesday, June 27, for the PlayStation 4!

Due to Sony's timed exclusivity deal with Activision with all things Call of Duty, other platforms (that's PC and Xbox One) will have to wait for the MWR standalone version's availability at a later date. If it's the same as the map packs, PC and Xbox One owners will need to wait a full 30 days before they'll be able to buy and play MWR by itself.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered will be priced at $39.99, and will include 16 multiplayer maps, " fully improved texture resolution and detail, revamped animation, remastered audio, and much more." Don't forget, the base standalone game does not include the "Modern Warfare Remastered Variety Map Pack."
