Call Of Duty: Ranking Every Game Mode From Worst To Best
2. Team Deathmatch
There's a reason why Team Deathmatch (also known as Team Battle in some titles) is and always will be the most popular game mode on every single FPS game, Call of Duty or not. Its effortless simplicity makes it accessible to all players, tasking them with merely wiping out their opposition with no other objective considerations whatsoever.
Perhaps the most accessible of modes given its idiotproof concept and the fact that players aren't a liability if they ignore or don't understand the objective, the mode appeals to newcomers and veterans alike.
Everybody has their own preferred way of playing, whether that be rushing, camping or running around in a wolfpack with friends. Spawn camping, headglitching, quick-scoping and all manner of widely loathed tactics are all prevalent, but they're trademarks of the series at this point and the smug feeling that players receive when they outsmart those using them is always justified.
Black Ops 2 offered a unique twist on the dynamic by allowing games between three teams rather than two, making things more challenging for players in theory given that two thirds of the field would be trying to hunt them down rather than the usual half. It has never been repeated for reasons unknown, but its inclusion in future games could mitigate the tedium that can sometimes arise from repeatedly playing the mode in its original guise.
