Castlevania Season 3 Review: 5 Ups & 2 Downs

Netflix's vampire series explores new territory with another compelling adventure...

It's hard to deny the sheer quality of storytelling in Netflix's Castlevania. The show kicked off with a bloodsoaked narrative in which Count Dracula vowed revenge on humanity for killing his wife and, in a mere 12 episodes, it single-handedly managed to bring the Prince of Darkness' revenge full-circle, delve into the motivations of one Trevor Belmont and resurrect the count's son Alucard for a sundown showdown of bloody proportions.

A story told? Perhaps, and one that was so well-told, it left many wondering why a third season was necessary. However, as the final episode of Season 2 - and indeed Season 3 - highlighted, there is clearly much more story to tell, which is why it's fortunate that the aforementioned third season - a bumper 10-episode third season - has arrived on the streaming service. And it's just waiting for fans to, ahem, sink their teeth into it.

On a whole, Castlevania's third season continues that high standard of storytelling that the show is renowned for, taking the story in surprising directions, and even though it hits a few speed bumps along the way, it's another highly-engaging offering from the dark fantasy series.
