Cuphead: The Delicious Last Course Review

Cuphead DLC Boss
Studio MDHR Entertainment Inc.

Acting as this games version of an Easy Mode on top of the already established "Simple" Mode, Chalice comes packed with powers including a double jump which replaces your parry slap, and a dash which now acts as a parry, meaning that her mobility and defensive options are vastly improved over our original duo.

While some may turn their noses up at this, I feel it brilliantly addresses the challenge of the game in a manner that allows players of any skill level to enjoy a game that so many has raved about. It's entirely optional meaning no one is forcing you to play as Chalice, but she is an absolute blast to control and changes the pace of fights considerably. If you've ever wanted to go through the game in Co-op but found your partner unable to keep pace, Chalice is the character for them and it's delivered in a way that won't make them feel patronized which is the most important thing of all seeing as this game is meant to be about having fun!

As you might expect from a Cuphead experience there are bosses a-plenty to take down and each one presented a new challenge such as platform hopping to avoid Gnomes with hammers smashing my china, or taking on a squadron of puppies in fighter jets before the entire camera perspective was flipped in a late-game difficulty spike. These aren't just some thrown-together ideas as each boss has a gimmick that will challenge you to think differently about your positioning and how to get the best of these big meanies making them immediately more memorable and fun to take down.

And just you wait until you hit the final boss. Hoo boy.

I won't ruin the surprise for anyone but let's just say that when the devs announced that this DLC had more animations in than the entire main game combined, they weren't kidding as this final encounter has so many jaw-droppingly beautiful moments that it's easy to get ghosted by background distractions.
