Cuphead: The Delicious Last Course Review

However it's not just the main bosses you'll want to try and best here, as The Delicious Last Course also does away with its Run 'N Gun sections (arguably the weakest aspect of the main game) and instead presents a new multi-part challenge with the rather amusing caveat of you having to beat each and every mini-boss by only using your parry mechanic. This was a hugely rewarding side mission to work through as not only do the devs provide another slew of beautiful locations (including some genuinely impressive stop motion scenery) but each challenge requires just enough brainpower to overcome that you'll nod in appreciation as the solution finally presents itself.

Even after completing the side-quest and unlocking a new and extreme "gauntlet" mode, you'll not be wanting for things to do, as there's a mystery to solve utilizing new charms and locations, new and incredibly useful weapons to implement in battle, and of course an "Expert" mode which will simply laugh in your face the moment you feel you've got the game by the handle. Make no mistake, while Chalice makes the moment-to-moment fighting easier, this DLC is no slouch when it comes to taking a hammer to your confidence.

Of course, all of these moments are backed up by visuals that are simply a league beyond anything else on the market right now, with such love and care applied to even the smallest animations that it's clear that it needs to be commended at every turn. Yet don't think for a second that this means other areas of the expansion are resting on their laurels as the DLC also comes with a simply wonderful new soundtrack, complete with a brand new character intro screen which just melted my heart, and when combined in the heat of battle you have an experience like no other.

Cuphead is back with the dessert trolly and despite knowing that the sugar rush from all these treats will lead to a stark crash once we're back in the triple-A, games as a live service swamp, right now we're feasting like there's no tomorrow. A wonderful treat that is a delight to play through.

Score: ★★★★½
