Cyberpunk 2077: 10 Coolest Features We Can't Wait To Play

3. Gender? Who’s That?

Gender has been at the centre of three controversies in the run up to Cyberpunk 2077’s release. First it was Twitter reps being fired for transphobic comments, then it was a highly sexualised poster of a transwoman with a huge cybernetic bulge featuring the tagline ‘Mix It Up’.

While the latter could prove to be a fascinating commentary on transhumanism and the sexualisation/commodification of queer identities, the former makes it harder to give them the benefit of the doubt.

The third scandal came from the opposite end of the spectrum. Rather than any negativity towards the transgender community, the final trans controversy was over their inclusion at all.

In Cyberpunk 2077’s comprehensive character customisation, gender options go beyond the binary. It’s this feature which not only caused controversy, but which sits here as one of the game’s most exciting features.

Rather than picking a man or woman, you’ll be free to customise their face, body type, voice and anything else about them as you build your perfect character.

You can definitely just pick say, a male voice, face and body, but you can also tweak your character to be a non binary character, or a trans person in the early stages of their transition.
