Darksiders 3 Review: 5 Ups & 4 Downs

2. Up: Fury's A Personable, Enjoyable Protagonist

A trait all too common with games like these dealing with mega-strong characters is the bland personalities they're given. So often there's an overt serious that's never allowed to be more, leading to rather one-note personalities like War's in the first Darksiders. Death offered a much-appreciated depth of both humour and genuine emotion. While Fury doesn't supersede Death as the best DS protagonist, she's a joy to control.

A ruthless, sarcastic bundle of dry wit and viciousness, Fury's got a lot of personality. Unafraid to let people know how little she cares about their plight, there's never a moment where you feel she's hiding something. There's an authentic nature to her character, and when there's another, more compassionate side revealed, it doesn't feel out-of-place or faked. Fury isn't emotionless and doesn't always hesitant to show it at points. Death may still be the best Horseman overall, but Fury's a fierce protagonist that earns a spot among her super-powered horsemen.
