Death Stranding: 6 Reasons It Could Be FANTASTIC (And 5 It Could Be A Disaster)
3. A Focus On Tediously "Realistic" Features
When Red Dead Redemption came out last year, one of the most pressing complaints levied against it was the game's strange fixation on realistic mechanics. While it starts off being an interesting level of immersion, having to consider bathing, eating, maintaining your stamina and trying to ride carefully so Arthur Morgan doesn't get comically launched off his horse soon became an absolute chore.
Looking at the Death Stranding footage, there's a concern that it could follow the same route. While it's fun to consider the idea of balancing your weight to climb steep hills, measuring the depth of water to ensure you don't get swept downstream and making sure Sam's gone for a quick pee before he heads off on his travels, maintaining these systems for forty hours could no doubt become unbearable.
It might be hard to motivate yourself to boot up the game if it takes twenty minutes to get Sam in the right shape to take on a mission, and while it will definitely increase immersion in some aspects, there's every chance that it will distract from all the good things about exploring Death Stranding's world.
