Destiny: The Taken King - 10 New Features That Will Change Everything
4. You Can No Longer Ascend Legendaries
In the House of Wolves expansion, Destiny allowed us to use etheric lights to ascend our old legendaries, meaning you could hit the max level cap rather easily. Thankfully, this time around, it wont be as simple. The reason for this is - similar to a typical MMO or RPG - you will again be using white, blue (rare) and green (uncommon) weapons/armor. But before you say goodbye to your Fatebringers, Black Hammers and your fancy (yet underwhelming) lighthouse guns, current legendaries will have some purpose in the next DLC. Unfortunately we dont yet know what that purpose is. Bungie themselves tweeted
Remember, Guardians. No matter what you learned today on the stream, dont dismantle a thing before you start to play The Taken King.
Reintroducing the White, Blue and Green item system will be music to the ears of Destiny fans. All fans love new content and for too long the game has relied too heavily on recycling old content. Lastly, Bungie confirmed on their recent live stream that in The Taken King you will be able to trade in higher-level weapons to increase lower level weapons. For example, if you have a 280 gun that you prefer to your 290 gun, the gunsmith will allow you to trade in the 290 weapon to boost the 280 weapon's attack.
