Dungeons And Dragons 5e: How To Pick Your Class
5. Ranger
Each class we’ve discussed so far has had facets of their combat prowess examined. But how are you going to fight something if you can’t find it? You, my friend, need a ranger.
Master trackers that feel at home in nature, the ranger gets the ability of Favored Terrain as well as a Favored Enemy, each of these grant you substantial bonuses when tracking particular quarries in particular areas. But even if you don’t have homefield advantage, the ranger is probably your best bet for trekking through the world at large.
In a fight, the ranger has a small but potent druidic-based spell list with a few unique spells to themselves, including bonus damage on strikes that can move from target to target with Hunter’s Mark, or the ability to conjure a volley of arrows.
Ranger Conclaves vary in such ways that can see you become a master of the darkness as a Gloom Stalker, or a Beastmaster, a unique feature to the Ranger that lets them tame an animal companion to fight by their side. One of the absolute best pure archers in the game, if you have a desire to be a natural explorer and absolutely deadly from hundreds of feet away, hunt down the Ranger.
