E3 2016: 4 Ups & 7 Downs From Nintendo's Treehouse

2. Zelda Deserved A More Prestigious Reveal

Yes, the hours and hours of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild gameplay footage Nintendo dropped on day 1 of their livestream quelled any fears that an open-world Zelda game could be bad, but would it have killed Nintendo to inject a little more pomp and circumstance into their unveiling?

Given how huge and beloved Zelda is, this felt like something that should've been shouted from the rooftops at a huge convention show, where the crowd would've naturally gone nuts.

Instead, viewers had to sit through Pokemon guff, technical issues and unnecessary breaks with dead air, making the whole reveal lack the professional sheen audiences expect from E3 reveals.

The important thing is that the game looks awesome, sure, but it's hard to deny that those rapturous E3 crowd responses to gameplay footage can be pretty unforgettable in their own right, and they were of course nowhere to be seen here.
