E3 2016: 6 Ups & 4 Downs From Ubisoft's Conference

9. Watch Dogs' Bad Dialogue & Voice Acting

South Park The Fractured But Whole Watch Dogs 2

Though the extended glimpse of Watch Dogs 2's gameplay at least suggests that it's going to be a far lighter affair than the first game and take itself less seriously, it's also got some major problems with regard to dialogue and voice acting in particular.

Both during the cut-scenes before a mission and the mission itself, the dialogue is trying way, way too hard to sound cool and hip, while also seeming like the sort of nonsense someone who knows nothing about hacking or young people might say.

Yes, the lighter tone means more humour, but does it need to be so witless and cliched? Plus, the delivery from most of the characters is fairly creaky.

We get it, Watch Dogs is going to be more like GTA this time, but apparently minus the smart, self-aware writing and pitch-perfect performances? Even if the game ends up being an improvement over the original, this aspect isn't terribly convincing yet.
