E3 2016: 9 Ups & 5 Downs From Sony's Conference

Ups...9. God Of War Gets A Radical, Bada** Reboot
God Of War Kratos

It had been long-rumoured that God of War 4 would feature a Norse mythology setting, and that turned out to be totally true as Sony's conference opened with an elaborate gameplay demonstration of the new title, simply called God of War, implying a quasi-reboot.

The 10-minute sequence sees Kratos, who now sports a gigantic bada** beard, taking his son deer hunting (prompting a ton of "Dad of War" jokes online). Of particular note is the new over-the-shoulder camera and more grounded fighting style, giving the game a distinctive look from its predecessors.

The graphics look insanely good, and Kratos' boss fight against a giant monster feels at once different and totally in step with what made the franchise so popular in the first place: it's brutal and beautiful.

The more significant changes won't be to all tastes, but this certainly looks like an ambitious AAA effort all the same.
