E3 2016: Battlefield 1 - 10 New Gameplay Details You Need To Know
6. It's Not Just The Western Front
Battlefield 1 is clearly making a concerted effort to portray World War I in all its full horror, drawing inspiration from not just the battlefields of Verdun and the Somme, but also theatres of war in the Arabian Peninsula and the Italian Front. It's ensuring that players aren't bogged down in the mud and guts of wartime France, and though it's hard to admire the scenery whilst you're bayoneting a khaki-clad enemy, it does help shake things up a bit.
Each of these settings look undeniably beautiful, as DICE have really beefed up the Frostbite engine to pull off some absolutely breathtaking visuals. It's allowed the studio to pull off these settings convincingly with a degree of historical accuracy to back it all up, and taking players all over the globe whilst doing it is a fantastic feat in itself.
It would be even more impressive if we got to see perspectives from the Eastern Front too, but I wouldn't be surprised if that's being saved for DLC in the inevitable yet lamentable Season Pass of EA's choosing.
