E3 2016: Battlefield 1 - 10 New Gameplay Details You Need To Know

7. Bayonet Charges Are A Key Aspect Of Gameplay

The First World War was by all means a military shambles. Archaic frontline structures and tactics disintegrated come the advent of the machine gun, but at the expense of an immeasurable amount of life. Surprisingly, one of the changes that took far too long to come into effect was the idea that running, not walking, towards the enemy was a more effective means of war.

So, the 'bayonet charge' replaced the 'bayonet stroll' sometime into the war, and it's looking to be a key feature of Battlefield 1.

If in a sticky situation and you find yourself out of ammo, players can make a mad dash towards their enemy at the click of the button, fixing their bayonet and plunging their rifle into their target of choosing. It's brutal stuff, and a feature that I can only imagine will be used sparingly in the face of sporadic enemy fire.

Don't be surprised to find yourself running the other way when facing a squad bayonets.
