World War 1 wasn't all about bolt-action rifles and mounted machine guns, y'know. In fact, it heralded the birth of many modern weapons, including submachine guns, semi-automatic rifles and pistols, and even flamethrowers too.

They didn't see wide usage, but they were still present at various stages throughout the conflict. It only makes sense that they're widely dispersed in game then, even if it does forego historical accuracy in the name of gameplay experience as Battlefield 1 seems to be doing elsewhere anyway.

You'll still have your typical FPS arsenal at the ready, like snipers, shotguns etc. Just don't expect to be carrying around any automatic rifles as you venture into No Man's Land.
