Remember the extravagant spread Microsoft put on for its HoloLens tech at last year's E3? Witnessing Mojang's pixelated sandbox world being realised in the physical plane with impressive augmented reality tech was a treat, but what was the point of it being showcased, exactly?

Microsoft has declined to follow up the impressive demo with any talk of practically utilizing HoloLens as a commercial product and by now, the whole event is in danger of becoming a repeat of the Milo & Kate debacle fronted by Peter Molyneux that ultimately ended up being little more than a proof of concept rather than a playable, usable product.

It HoloLens was never meant to be anything but, that's fine, but Microsoft not only needs to make that clear, but stop dedicating stage time to conceptual ideas.

If the opposite is true, then hopefully we'll get an idea next month of how the software giant plans to use HoloLens as a complementary component of the Xbox experience. We're still awaiting the company's alternative to PSVR and Oculus, and this could be it.
