E3 2018: 3 Ups & 6 Downs From Square Enix's Conference

3. Babylon's Fall Is PlatniumGames' New IP
Easily the most intriguing and unexpected announcement in Square Enix's showcase was the reveal trailer for Babylon's Fall, a new action-adventure game from much-loved Japanese studio PlatinumGames (Bayonetta, Vanquish, Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, Nier: Automata).
The trailer kept concrete details incredibly vague, though a number of futuristic dates and events were displayed with overt references to a number of literary, mythological concepts.
The text also seemed to suggest that the antagonist of the game is Gaia (the deified personification of Earth), and the heroic "nomads" will attempt to take her on. The trailer closes with a brief in-engine look at two gigantic knight-like warriors battling one another, with the presumed protagonist, a nomad, coming out on top.
PlatinumGames' sheer pedigree is enough to make this an exciting reveal, even if Xbox owners are sadly left in the dust, as the game's currently only confirmed for PS4 and PC. Babylon's Fall releases sometime next year.
