E3 2018: 5 Ups & 5 Downs From Ubisoft's Conference

1. Assassin's Creed Odyssey Looks Beautiful...But Boring

Though its existence was leaked a while ago and even confirmed by Ubi themselves, they finally officially unveiled Assassin's Creed Odyssey at the conclusion of their conference, devoting a rather generous 15 minutes to showing it off.

The latest entry into the franchise is set in ancient Greece and clearly borrows a ton of aesthetic cues from Zack Snyder's 300. More intriguingly, though, the game will allow you to choose your protagonist's gender for the first time in the mainline series, and the addition of dialogue choices further plays-up the series' divergence into RPG territory.

The "assassin" part of the title has never seemed more irrelevant and some of the facial animations looked a little rough - not to mention those "Greek" accents - but the game does look visually stunning for the most part, and is sure to be an absolute eye-melter in HDR.

However, outside of its undeniably strong aesthetics, the gameplay seemed a bit, well, soulless? The franchise's success and popularity is impossible to deny, but with it now returning to annual releases (Odyssey is out October 5th), don't be surprised if "Assassin's Creed fatigue" quickly returns.

Though the show was a little on the uninspired side, it certainly still had its moments. Here's everything Ubisoft's show nailed...
