E3 2019: 12 Insane Announcements That Could Happen

6. Final Fantasy VII Remake Playable Demo & Release Date

Prince Of Persia
Square Enix

Were any other developer in charge of this, a release date after four years of development might not seem like an "insane" announcement, but this is Square Enix.

This is the same studio that has announced multiple new games at the same time, the studio that has no idea how to name a video game (just look at Kingdom Hearts!), the studio that delayed Final Fantasy XV after holding an event based around the release date.

Square Enix is one of the most unpredictable game studios in the world, and often not in a good way.

Final Fantasy VII Remake is a project gamers have been pining for for years - we'll just ignore the fact that it was once announced for PS2 and never happened. It was announced in 2015, handed off to an external developer, cancelled and restarted in-house, and then re-revealed during a PlayStation State of Play. Suffice to say, Square Enix doesn't often think long-term.

That being said, the studio is happy to announce release dates years out, so a window for Episode One wouldn't be impossible. Truth be told though, it's equally as likely that you will never play Final Fantasy VII Remake.
