E3 2021: 20 Huge Video Game Announcements You Need To Know
6. Final Fantasy Origin: Stranger Of Paradise Is A Team Ninja Spin-Off, Releasing In 2022
Final Fantasy fans hoping to see Final Fantasy XVI - or, more optimistically, Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 2 - were left disappointed by Square Enix's showing this year, though they did reveal a new spin-off title in development.
A trailer dropped for Team Ninja's (Ninja Gaiden, Dead or Alive, Nioh) Final Fantasy Origin: Stranger of Paradise, touted as "a bold new vision for Final Fantasy."
Franchise mainstays Tetsuya Nomura and Kazushige Nojima are onboard in what appears to be an edgier riff on the Final Fantasy IP, taking the aesthetic and combat of the Dark Souls games and plonking it in the world of the original Final Fantasy game.
The combat was the easy show-stealer here, and while it looked pretty underbaked graphically, how can you not smirk at a game where the protagonists' primary goal is apparently to kill Chaos itself?
A trial version of the game has also been made immediately available for PS5 owners until June 24. Final Fantasy Origin: Stranger of Paradise will release for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S next year.
