Every Mainline Resident Evil Ranked From Worst To Best

1. Resident Evil 2

Resident Evil 4 Remake
Capcom

Released initially for the PlayStation in 1998, Resident Evil 2 is the perfect sequel that takes what worked with the original and improves upon it in every way.

Puzzle-solving, the fixed camera, and tank-controls all return yet feel so much better here. As Leon S. Kennedy and Claire Redfield, traversing through Raccoon City escalates the setting yet still retains the claustrophobic horror of the Spencer Mansion. The game also features some of the best bosses in the series with William Birkin's different transformations and the hulking Mr. X who pursues our heroes during a second playthrough.

In terms of presentation, the game has aged yet doesn't feel as dated as the original. The voice acting has improved and the storyline, both through cutscenes and in the environments, perfectly paints a picture of a torn-down city. Another great addition is the Zapping System where playing as Character A will alter certain factors for Character B. This allows for four different scenarios and makes RE2 highly replayable.

Ultimately, Resident Evil 2 is the franchise best; a masterclass in survival horror and one of the best video games out there.
