For a while, one of the most prominent rumours for the future of FromSoftware was to take Dark Souls' signature combat and fire it off into space. As you now know from the debut of Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice though, that couldn't be further from the truth.

Enter Deck13.

Though the first Surge was a pretty solid Souls-alike with a more overt story focus and the great core mechanic of reusing enemy weapons you'd sheared off them in combat, the franchise is yet to be talked about alongside more reputable entries in the genre.

With any luck, that will change with The Surge 2. Seeing the devs add finishers for hard-fought fights, weightier combat that counters the overly twitchy feel of the first and a new character creator so YOU can embark on a story instead of being given a protagonist, hopefully this catches on with a wider audience.
