You didn't know you wanted it, and upon seeing it, nobody thought it could work. But Tetris 99? This is one of the best battle royale games on the market, no joke.

Just the very idea of competitive Tetris on such a large scale is a recipe for pure intensity. Brilliantly, Nintendo included a four way targeting system so you can decide whether to play defensively, stacking huge amounts of lines for later attacks, or just focus on those already struggling to play, knowing if you get the "kill", their multiplier badge is yours.

The iconic Tetris theme backs every match, and the play screen is bordered by a live feed of everyone else's matches unfolding in real time. This really brings home just how many people are trying to beat one another, and the top 20 rush of combo chains, last-minute screen-fills and tactical K.O.s is something else entirely.
