Every Mass Effect 2 Loyalty Mission - Ranked

There is no other metric which sees Jacob in a Mass Effect top 3, except perhaps a ranking of how dull they are compared to dishwater. Even then, Jacob faces stiff competition from Kaidan and Liam to win the crown.

This mission though is a career highlight for his characterisation, even if it’s a lowlight on a personal level. Though assassins and sex vampires feature previously, Jacob’s mission is by far the most warped.

It starts out well suited to Jacob’s boring sensiblities. He thought his father died in a crash a few years ago, but he’s just received a distress signal. Cookie cutter.

Once you land on the planet though, it’s anything but. Most of the supplies had spoiled, infected with a brain rotting toxin. Only senior crew like Jacob’s dad got the untainted food. And once the toxin turns the non-essential crew’s minds to mush, they become pets. The game lets you use your information here, but still. Ew.

BioWare tried hard to make Jacob an interesting military archetype, something they later got right with Vega. But this mission gives his no-nonsense personality the spotlight perfectly. Just a shame it set the bar too high.
