2. Grunt - Rite Of Passage

The motivations for the Mass Effect 2 squadmates run deep. Redemption, revenge, absolution, atonement... not so Grunt. The motivation here is that he wants to kill something really f@&#ing big.

The Krogan could've easily become the typical big angry orcs in the hands of many other developers, but BioWare nurtured them into a complex, tragic race, without losing that ruthless edge. So it makes sense that while Grunt's mission is literally just 'murder this', there's a lot of thought behind it. Grunt's a test tube baby, engineered to be a great warrior. But warriors are not engineered, and his race rejects him. He's 'tank bred'. There is, however, a way to win them over...

Grunt, assisted by you and one other squadmate (don't take Mordin just because his mission's on Tuchanka too, he's useless here), must fight a Thresher Maw. Similar to ceremonies held by Vikings and other civilisations forged by blood and steel, taking on a maw is a ritual to become a man of the tribe. Completing it not only makes Grunt loyal, it finally makes him a real Krogan.

This mission made you feel like you really were Krogan. Which will have to do until they add playable races.
