Every Mass Effect 2 Loyalty Mission - Ranked
1. Tali - Treason
There is no mission that quite typifies what Mass Effect loyalty missions are about like Treason. It’s the polar opposite of Grunt’s battle with the Thresher Maw, but that variety is what makes the game great.
Beginning with a court proceeding (which is still the best use of the Renegade/Paragon mechanic to date), the mission soon turns into a close examination of Quarian customs. Even aside from the cult of Talimancers, the Quarians are often considered BioWare’s most fascinating race.
Finding out more about them in such a tightly wound scenario is riveting, especially as we truly see Tali’s evolution here. Meek and shy in the original game, it’s clear from the moment we meet her on our first Cerberus mission that she’s a changed woman. This mission digs into the why, managing to be both micro and macro at once. Yes, the mission is about the machinations of the Quarian people in its widest sense, but at its heart it’s about Tali defending the honour of her late father.
It’s this contrast that makes the mission stand above the others. Of any side mission in any game, Treason stakes a credible claim at being the best ever.
