7. Daniel Lamb - Manhunt 2
Poor Daniel Lamb. The human guinea pig has perhaps the worst time of any protagonist in a Rockstar game, a tragic tale which becomes more horrific as the events prior to Manhunt 2 are gradually revealed. A willing participant in an experiment gone horribly wrong, he is forced to contend with a sadistic alter ego, Leo Kasper. The slow descent of Daniel into darkness makes Manhunt 2 a compelling and disturbing game. At first horrified by killing, he eventually takes more and more pleasure in the act, as Leo gradually takes over his mind. Eventually, it's revealed that Leo actually made Daniel kill his own family before the events of the game, one of the most horrifying plot twists in Rockstar history. Eventually Daniel is finally given a break, ending the game alone on a highway with no memory of his traumatic life, and a note giving him directions to a new address. An interesting (and rather creepy) fan theory suggests that Lamb is modelled on a police sketch of The Zodiac Killer, a real-life serial killer who is thought never to have been caught.
