3. Jimmy Hopkins - Bully

Bully's very title provoked international outrage a few months before its release, leading to a rebranding (as 'Canis Canem Edit') in certain countries. Critics predicted that the game would have players assume control of a schoolyard bully, menacing weaker characters and causing mayhem in the uncomfortably familiar setting of a school. Instead, Rockstar made the wise move of giving Jimmy Hopkins a conscience, a decision which paid off in spades. Although brash and hardy, much of Bully sees Hopkins defending the more vulnerable members of his school from its antagonistic villains. He is as much a likeable character for his humane traits as his badass attitude, instantly making him more complex than the average Rockstar protagonist. Like all good heroes, Jimmy also has a fantastic villain to clash with. The devious Gary originally attempts to gain Hopkins' friendship, recognising his physical strength and bravery as useful tools in his plan to take over the school. Crucially, he fails to reckon with the protagonist's intelligence, something many critics were guilty of before the game even hit the shelves.
