Everything We Know About 2018's Most Mysterious Video Games
2. Shenmue III
To the surprise of nobody, Shenmue creator Yu Suzuki confirmed earlier in the year that Shenmue's long-awaited threequel had suffered a year-long delay, sullying any chance of fans getting to continue Ryo's cross-country quest to avenge his father's death before 2017 was out.
It won't be until 2018 at the earliest, then, that Lan Di gets the comeuppance he deserves, but in what state does the 80s-themed adventure currently sit? A 12-month delay is hardly inconsequential; that extra time must be needed for more than just a spit and polish, right?
Correct. Without genuine gameplay trailers to dissect, it's hard to put pin down exactly how Shenmue III will look and feel to play come Crimbo next year, but backer updates via the game's Kickstarter have shown off some surprisingly beautiful vistas, as well as a cinematic featuring Ryo throwing a fist or two.
Most recently in the development timeline, that infamous trailer featuring a dead-eyed Ryo and Shenhua caused quite a stir of concern in regards to just how much the game's relatively small budget would affect Shenmue III's quality, concerns later put to rest by a further progress report.
With 2018 within spitting distance, how much longer must we wait for a chunk of bonafide gameplay to surface, eh, Ys Net?
