Fable 4 Officially Announced: 10 Things To Return The Series To Greatness

1. A Combat Overhaul

Combat has never been Fable’s strongest area in terms of gameplay. The weapons all pretty much do the same thing, magic in Fable 2 is overpowered to the point of breaking the game, and your magic gauntlets in 3 are a serious limitation on your abilities to wield magic in a fun way with pretty boring melee and ranged combat to supplement.

The most important thing needs to be the range of spells available. In the original game, morality points were linked to certain spells; healing was a good spell, while necromancy was an evil spell. Certain spells could only be accessed at top levels by heroes of a certain morality, and as we've discussed; morality needs to have a greater focus in this entry.

Magic is essentially a messy afterthought in the later instalments, and the basic attack/flourish system gets tiring pretty quickly. The series would definitely benefit from a new combat system, perhaps with a more tactical approach, or at the very least a wider variety of movement and attack types.

Chances are I’m watching a movie or replaying Mass Effect rather than doing anything productive.
