Fable Reboot Wishlist: 5 Things We Want (And 5 We Don't)
4. Do: Interesting moral choices
The moral choice system in Fable originally was a great concept; for many, it was their first experience with the ability to be able to play a game as either a hero or a villain. The options were always very binary, in the sense that you can go to one extreme or the other.
This was fun when it began; however, gaming has changed significantly since the Fable series stopped operating, and even whilst it still was. Moral choices are a lot more expected in modern titles, even to the extent that a simple binary one can be seen as detrimental to the quality of a video game.
Fable needs to make sure that it adapts the system of its moral choice, and allows for more interesting decisions to be made. There are many directions that Playground games can go in, but the main thing that needs to happen is allowing for the moral choices to be important but overall interesting.
In many cases, the choices were too easy to make; if you were playing as a hero or villain, there would be no real doubt about what to choose. Implementing new, more challenging decisions would add some much-needed revitalisation to the system.
