Fallout 4: 10 Core Lessons It Must Learn From Skyrim

1. Remember The World Is The Game's Greatest Asset

Though there has already been a point made about the importance of expanding the size of the world players inhabit in Fallout 4, it is equally important to remember that the biggest strength of Skyrim as a game was Skyrim as a land. In many of its reviews and continued praise, the world itself is often referred to as the best character in Bethesda's 2011 game. But how is this possible? Surely the world is just the foundation to fight cool enemies and save everybody? Wrong. The world of an RPG is so much more than just its level. One of Skyrim's greatest strengths is the way it completely envelopes its players and never stops providing them with wonder. Skyrim is a land that offers towering mountains, suffocating forests and deep caves all in one game. The story, enemies and treasures would all fail to impress without the help of this biggest asset to the game, and Bethesda know this. After the success of Skyrim it's incredibly unlikely that Fallout 4's world will be anything less than spectacular. Any perception that a post-war wasteland would be dull or boring is completely off the mark, and has so far been well disproved by the existing games in the Fallout series. So long as Bethesda continue to understand just how important the variety, scale and personality of their in-game world is, then Fallout 4 will be another guaranteed success.
