Fallout 4: 10 New Details We Learned From The Leaked Footage

5. Building A Settlement Ain't That Simple

One of the most exciting features of Fallout 4 is without doubt the settlement-building, which lets you lead a small community out in the wasteland - erecting buildings, inviting merchants to ply their trade in it, and protecting it from raiders and mutants. One Fallout 4 player called Dinja70 reported that areas where you can build settlements are marked out by red workshop tables in buildings. These areas may be occupied by people, in which case you'll need to do quests for them to earn their trust and have them accept you as one of their own. Alternatively, you may stumble upon these red workbenches in abandoned villages, at which point you're free to start building up your settlement without answering to anyone. Most settlement sites already have existing buildings, but you're free to demolish these and start from scratch. As part of your responsibility to a settlement, you'll need to provide it with food, water, bedding and energy. The player reported that they found the settlement aspect of the game surprisingly deep and challenging. While the player was apparently overwhelmed by the huge amount of quests and options around settlement-building, there are no doubt plenty who will happy to hear that Bethesda has gone all out in making it as fleshed-out as possible.
