Fallout 4: 10 New Details We Learned From The Leaked Footage
4. Dialogue System's Changed, Karma's Gone
The little image of Vault Boy appearing in the corner of the screen, denoting whether you've done a morally good or evil action by wearing a halo or devil horns respectively, was a mainstay of the last two Fallout games. That seems to be gone now, or at least has been made invisible to the player. The new dialogue system for Fallout 4, which we already knew was presented in a wheel rather than list form, works a bit differently to before. Selecting an option in the wheel seems to get rid of other options in the wheel too, effectively locking you into your dialogue decisions even on basic topics. This might not chime too well with some players, but I reserve judgement until I've tried it. One of the leakers also wrote that in their 23 hours of playtime, they found that the dialogue system made it too easy to just talk your way out of situations, rather than having to deal with them aggressively. Building relationships with your companions has been compared to the way you'd do it in Mass Effect or Dragon Age (essentially sussing out whether you should talk to them like dirt or like royalty, then doing so until they jump in bed with you).
