Fallout 76: 9 Big Questions We Still Have

3. Are Modding Weapons Returning?

Fallout 76
Bethesda/Nexus Mods

In general, people have assumed that the mechanics of the game will stay relatively similar to Fallout 4. The gameplay looked the same, and Bethesda hasn't really had enough time to completely re-invent their engine. That being said, it's a real possibility that features have been dropped to make way for new mechanics.

One of the coolest mechanics of Fallout 4 was the modding system for weapons and armor, by which you could adapt each type of weapon to suit your play style and each situation. Maybe Bethesda haven't mentioned it because it's just not the most important returning feature - or maybe because they've dropped it to make way for something else.

In fact, weapons haven't been mentioned at all, which is notable since trailers for Fallout 3 and 4 highlighted the variety of weapons and combat styles available. Since one of the best parts of Fallout games is the insane and brutal combat, it's rather suspicious that Bethesda are not using this as one of the main selling points to the game.

Maybe there's more information coming soon. Or maybe Bethesda have cut some of our favourite mechanics. We'll find out soon enough...

I'm based in the UK, looking to make a career out of writing about entertainment and culture. The only thing I like as much as watching films, playing games or listening to music is enjoying as much hummus and crisps as I can while I do so. My favourite film is Eddie the Eagle and I like any game that lets me wander around beautiful worlds (or eat hummus and crisps).
