Far Cry: Primal - 8 Essential Features It Must Have

3. Choose Whether To Fight Or Unite With Rival Tribes

Yes, tribal warfare is something we're all looking forward to in Primal. Rampaging through a burning village, torturing the men, raping the women and burning the babies obviously taps into the primeval savage fantasy in all of us (to clarify, Ubisoft hasn't said that any of those things will feature in Primal... yet). But rather than go down the outright combative route, Ubisoft has an opportunity here to offer the player some choice about how to approach tribal relations. Far Cry 3 and 4 had very simplistic alliance structures, with clearly demarcated good guys and bad guys, and no doubt - for the most part - about whose side you were on. As I mentioned before, it'd be great if the people of Primal's world weren't for the most part depicted as either good nor evil, but rather just wanting the best for their tribes - and willing to do anything to ensure their survival. Primal should offer players the choice between fighting against other tribes or uniting with them - will be you a feared tribal raider, or a true leader who unites tribes and helps them prosper? Earning notoriety could buff you up for battle, while uniting tribes would give you more fast-travel locations, and better access to resources and food. While all tribes could start off hostile, you could earn their favour by saving members of their tribe from sabre tooth tiger attacks, or by sparing one of them in battle. One of Primal's developers described it as "all about hunting. All about fighting another tribe trying to take your stuff", which suggests that the focus could be more on war rather than peace, but it's early days yet and hopefully there will be more to it than what we know so far.
