FIFA 14: 6 Players Bought By A Guy Who Doesn't Know Football
3. Joe Hart
Pricetag: $5M + Razak Boukari, CF
The day I sold Schmeichel I realized something: I don't have a keeper.
Not in the sense that I didn't have a capable one, I mean that I literally didn't have a player on the roster with 'GK' next to his name. I had one guy in my reserves who didn't even have his face in the game and was somewhere in the 50s overall, but for all intents and purposes I was without a keeper.
This was not likely to lend itself to continued success in the second half of the campaign.
Pondering it for a moment, I went through my limited (read: non-existent) knowledge of soccer goalies for one I knew to be pretty good. The only name I could think of was Joe Hart, and I was pretty sure his skill level was up for debate. Luckily, a roster search revealed him to be an 83 overall, so I opened negotiations.
The Man City keeper was in horrible form with lowered morale, and though his value was $8M the club was willing to listen to offers. I offered $5M and a disgruntled reserve by the name of Razak Boukari, and they took it.
I was shocked, and though negotiations with Hart were rocky and could only be concluded after a plea to ownership for more cash, the deal was done. England's top international keeper was a Wanderer, and it was the moment I believe that the franchise was legitimized.
How He Worked Out: Incredibly well. He's now an 85 overall, still gets the call for international duty, and is worth a whopping $18.5M on the transfer market. A great move, and it's one that I'll credit to my obviously expansive (read: non-existent) real world knowledge of soccer keepers.
