FIFA 14: 6 Players Bought By A Guy Who Doesn't Know Football
2. Rhys McCabe
Pricetag: $2.4M
Halfway through the second year things were going well enough that promotion was viable, and ownership was good enough to have bumped the transfer budget from what it was during our time in League 1.
I wasn't trying to do much of anything after the keeper fiasco had turned into good fortune, until I saw a headline on the manager's menu: "McCabe Wants Out"
Now I didn't know who McCabe was, what position he played, where he'd fit in at Wolverhampton, or if he'd be worth time and money to pursue, but none of those things had stopped me in transactions to date. My theory was that if he was good enough for his discontent to warrant its own headline, he was good enough for Wolves.
As it turned out, Sheffield Wednesday was happy to get rid of the flustered midfielder and I bought him for $2.4M. He bumped Barton from the starting lineup, which predictably led to my inbox being filled with complaints from the vet that I wasn't holding up my end of our contract, but it was all I could do.
McCabe paid immediate dividends, finishing the year with 12 goals. He's presently got five in 11 BPL games.
How He Worked Out: Solidly, for sure. He's given Wolves an offensive threat at midfield, his tackling is expert, and he continues to grow in both overall rating and transfer value. He's worth $4.5M now and looks like he'll be a member of the club for a lengthy run.
