The finesse shot has undergone some radical changes over the past couple of years. Any FIFA-fanatic will remember the days of FIFA 12 when the finesse shot was the most powerful weapon in your strikers arsenal. Back then it was possible to consistently score a finesse goal from ridiculous range, curling the ball around a defender and over the keeper. Of course these goals are possible in real life (look at Lukakus banger this weekend) but the frequency they were scored felt distinctly unrealistic. To counteract this imbalance, the potency of the finesse shot was severely reduced in FIFA 13 and FIFA 14, like a defanged, devenomed cobra. In nearly all instances it became more reliable to use a basic shot than resorting to the more flamboyant finesse option. In FIFA 15 EA Sports have once again addressed the ongoing issue of the finesse shot, and this time the recalibration seems to have hit the sweet spot. You cant hope to always score a finesse goal from 30 yards out but when one-on-one with the keeper the curved shot is a very reliable option.
